A spinal cord injury is when damage has occurred to your spinal cord, a very precious organ that is a key part of your central nervous system. It carries messages responsible for body function to and from your brain and body.
Damage to your spinal cord can affect your ability to move or feel. It can also affect some of the workings of your inner organs.
